P1 Pond Coating – The TECHNICAL Data

Water based and Revolutionary!

The Description

P1 is a twin pack water based epoxy resin coating designed for the safe and easy application in the Marine and Aquatic industry. P1 has many additional advantages over conventional pond coatings. Once dry, P1 will form a tough waterproof non-toxic barrier. P1 is resistant to oil, petrol and some mild chemicals. P1’s greatest attribute is that is does not allow Blanket Weed to adhere to its surface and can be easily cleaned by using a soft brush.

The Instructions

Preparation – Surfaces must be clean and free of grease/contaminates. The surface to be treated can be slightly damp but not wet or subject to running water.

Do not use any solvents of any type.

Use only water based de-greasers that can be washed away thoroughly and allow to dry leaving no residue. All holes must be made good as they will fill up with the coating and discolouration will occur. All leaks must be stopped with either P3 Water Stop or P5 Putty. Where damp or wet surfaces exist constantly apply P6 Pondalite first or seek technical advice.

Do not apply P1 to render which contains PVA as this does not allow for the coating to penetrate the surface.

All the above products are available from F W Filtration.

MixingPlease be sure to follow the instructions exactly and refer to the label for water addition.

Always stir the contents of the larger pot thoroughly to make sure there is no sediment left in the bottom as this will affect the over all finish. Pour contents of the small pot into the larger one scraping out all the liquid and mix both contents together vigorously for a few minutes to ensure thorough mixing. Add fresh clean tap water in 4 equal parts totalling the full volume specified on the label. Mixing well on each addition. P1 is now ready to apply.

Please note there is no water addition needed for the Clear Coating.

The Application

Apply using either a brush or a roller. Apply P1 Coating and allow to dry – normally 8 hours at 20 degrees C. Drying time can be affected by temperature – colder conditions can mean longer drying time. A second coat of P1 can be applied when the first coat is touch dry, but a stronger bond is made when the first coat is allowed to dry thoroughly before applying the second.

IMPORTANT!

P1 is a coating and NOT a paint. It is a chemically engineered two pack coating. Therefore you have once the packs are mixed 1 – 2 hours to apply the coating – this is referred to as the Pot Life. Full cure is the time it takes for the coating to become totally solid.

Pot Life: 1 – 1.5 hours @ 20 degrees

Touch Dry:            8                hours @ 20 degrees

Full Cure:               3 – 7    days dependent on weather conditions

The Coverage

Depending on the surface coverage and the porosity of the substrate coverage is approximately 8 square metres per litre.

The Cleaning

Brushes and rollers can be cleaned with cold water and detergent straight after use as the coating will cure on utensils if left.

The Storage

Store in a cool, dry frost free place in their original containers.

Shelf life – 12 months in the above conditions.

The Precautions

Once P1 is fully cured, wash pond thoroughly with a hosepipe and drain before filling.

Once pond is filled it is good practice to test the water and introduce a few trial fish and leave for 2 – 3 days. This is NOT to test the coating but to ensure all practices have been carried out correctly in relation to other aspects of the pond system – e.g  change of environment, construction, filtration, water quality etc………
